As Hawaiian legends tell us, the summit of the younger volcano Haleakala was home to the grandmother of the demigod Maui, who helped him catch the sun to lengthen the day for the Hawaiian islanders. This pure force is echoed in the dark shattered glass of the candle that reveals the volcanically red wax underneath.
