PVD – an acronym for Physical Vapour Deposition – gives objects fine colours and shades, and is obtained by deposition of metal particles through vaporization in a vacuum chamber. The coating is welded at an atomic level to the stainless steel substrate, providing the material with greater hardness and resistance to both wear and tear from rubbing and corrosion, inhibiting the formation of rust or oxides. Thanks to the use of non-toxic materials such as titanium and zirconium, PVD is also used in the biomedical field as scalpels or surgical blades.
